On the ‘Barbieri’ side, you can listen to ‘Fuoriclasse’, a Garage stomp classic originally recorded by The Sonics as ‘the Hustler’ (1965), which is here sung in Italian and more powerfully than ever. The second track is ‘Ritornerai’, a cover version of ‘She Told Me Lies’ (1984) by Chesterfield Kings sung in Italian and performed with a refreshing energy: you’ll love it!

The firs track, ‘Una Donna Vera’, is the Italian version of a classic garage-psych gem ‘Action Woman’ (1967) by Mineapolis-based cult band The Litter. As a last song of the EP, ‘Acqua Sporca’ is a fantastic rendition of a classic of The Standells ‘Dirty Water’ (1966).

Last but not least, this 7″ EP comes in a limited edition of only 333 copies (100 on blue vinyl)!!

I BARBIERI

I Barbieri" is one of the most amazing Italian beat bands: rooted in the mid-80s revival scene it still rocks dance-floors and fills clubs! Founded in November 1987 by Michele Landi (former drummer of Pikes in Panic, another great 80s Garage band), the band released a debut single "W il Lunedì" in 1988. The vynil featured two original songs along with a cover version of "Con Quella Voce" by 60s Italian band gli Uragani (itself a cover version of "I Can’t Explain" by the Who sung in Italian). Since then they have been acclaimed as one of the best band of the Italian Beat scene in the mid-80s.

In 1990 they released an EP "Se Vuoi Me" produced by Toast Records in a renewed line-up without organ and recorded a song, "Non Importa", for the compilation "Punto Zero VoL.1" again by Toast Records. Since then they toured around Italy until 1994 when they changed again the line-up and released the 10" album "Mondi Diversi", once more for Toast Records.

After a pause of about a decade, finally I Barbieri reformed to join as headliner for the Primavera Beat Festival in 2008 and have played regularly since. Amongst other venues they have supported the Trashmen at the Festival Beat supported in 2010, and have played for the Twiggy Festival in Rome.
In 2011 they took part to a compilation record made from the organizers of the Primavera Beat festival and recorded a song called ‘Puoi Girare Il Mondo Con Chi Vuoi’ (originally by the legendary 80s beat band gli Avvoltoi) for the great compilation ‘Welcome Back to the Eighties Colours’ (Psych Out Rec).

In 2012 they recorded a brand-new 7" EP with 4 songs, including the originals "Il Mondo Gira" and "Io Non Aspetto". Another song was written by Ferrari from Ragazzi di Pietra (historical Beat band from Milan active in the mid-60s) and arranged by the band. Finally a cover version sung in Italian of "Social End Product" of The Bluestars, a minor-hit legend of New Zealand 60s Punk.

I FENOMENI… da Genova!

I Fenomeni were born in February 2010, based on a common passion of Matteo (vocals and guitar) and Pier (guitar, organ and vocals) for late 60s Italian music, especially the bonafide psychedelic beats of some lesser-known band. Shortly thereafter the line-up was defined with the entrance of Andrea (bass, vocals ) and Franco (drums, vocals) .

In June 2010 they did their live debut in Genoa (their hometown), and a first demo-tape was produced ‘ Fate Largo … Arrivano i Fenomeni !’ (containing 12 cover versions of relatively obscure tracks). In September 2010 a second concert took place in Rome and was backed by the simultaneous release of a 7" EP 7 ‘I Fenomeni, Ora!’ (containing 4 original compositions) and a second demo "i Fenomeni # 2 " (with the songs recorded for the EP and 4 additional cover versions).

In the following months the group continued expanding its repertoire, characterised by a growing set of original songs,plus cover versions of old italian songs, as well as versions of UK and U.S. songs sung in italian. The band also played a few additional gigs in Genoa, Milan and Turin which helped to expand their fan-base.

In the spring of 2011 the band started recording sessions for a full-length LP, and eventually an LP, entitled ‘Un Vuoto Appeso (memorie dalla vita di GL)’, was released in November 2012 for Psych-Out rec. in a lavish gatefold sleeve with poster (300 copies only). The album, a sort of concept album about the life of an ordinary person, features 14 tracks (the most part being originals, with the exception of a cover version of an obscure Italian band, as well as an Italian renditionof a song by the Australian band Tol- Puddle Martyrs). The record, a mix of flanked acid sounds and heavy beats with some acoustic moments, has received rave reviews internationally (see British magazine Shindig).

During one of their last concerts at the Primavera Beat Festival in Italy the band was joined by Spartaco Nagliero, an original member of of the Italian psych cult-band the Fantom’s for a powerful version of their underground hit ‘Le Insegne Pubblicitarie’ , the first single of the Fantoms’ in 1966 and a as well as the first song played by the band in their rehearsal studio.

Lately I Fenomeni have played more live gigs, mainly in Italy, and are now recording new material for their next Long Playing, scheduled for release in 2014.
