Formed in the autumn of 1981 by the former guitarist of the group Rejestracja Zbigniew Cołbecki (who was also the vocalist in Bikini). The name Bikini was invented by Grzegorz “Max” Pituła – the name was an addition to his birthday present. From spring 1982, the line-up was completed by bassist Andrzej Czarnecki and drummer Tomek Wiśniewski. In addition, the band was supported by three female vocalists: Anna Kamińska (later married to Kazik Staszewski), Violetta Falecka (later married to Ireneusz Werenski) and Beata Wieczerzak (now deceased). In 1982-1983, the band performed in many Polish cities (Toruń, Warsaw, Słupsk) and took part in festivals in Jarocin and Brodnica. At the end of 1983, the musicians parted ways – they did not leave behind any official recordings.
Bikini was briefly reactivated in the mid-1980s, when the line-up included musicians from Rejestracja: Leszek Zawrot (who died in 2010) and Tomasz Siatka. In later years, Cołbecki repeatedly reactivated the group.
In 2007, the band resumed activity again. In 2009, the album Dokument was released, containing recordings from the entire period of the band’s activity. In 2010, the musicians recorded four tracks, which were released in the form of the vinyl EP Bikini.
Bikini currently consists of Zbigniew Cołbecki (vocals, guitar), Kuba Olejnik (guitar, vocals), Piotr Warszewski (bass guitar), Waldemar Zaborowski (saxophone) and Cezary Cołbecki (drums).
In 2008, the band Strachy na Lachy included the song ‘Nocne ulice’ on their album Zakazane piosenki.
