This was the band’s flower-power inspired debut from 1970 (Gordy-Motown Records), produced by Temptations mastermind Norman Whitfield and featuring wonderful male-female vocals and Dennis Coffey’ s psychedelic guitar freak outs. Highlights include an astonishing recording of ‘California Soul’ and the utterly mind blowing renditions of ‘Ball Of Confusion’ and ‘I Heard It Through Then Grapevine’, which are at least as spectacular as The Temptations’ versions. Superb stuff!
