“The Sinking of Torino”, published by Rubber Soul Dischi in a limited edition of 150 copies on vinyl, is a concept album, written, recorded, edited in one month (Summer 2023) at Stefano Giaccone’s studio, in a tiny village of central Sardinia. In perfect solitude.
Giaccone has been a musician and founder of the 80s Torino band, “FRaNTI” and since then he has developed an intense artistic life, including concerts and events, publishing albums and books, theatre reading and much more.
“The sinking of Torino” is both a love letter and a farewell one, to those “six letters on a road sign”. Stefano has always crossed his path with Tor as in a head-on collision but also as melancholic full-immersion: a city at the center of Italian history, especially in its avant-garde social element, its Workers’ Movement, its Civil War Antifascist Resistance and its Cultural output. A city going into the first century of the second Millennium, showing disconcerting fears and amnesia.
Musically these songs move away from the established canon of the Political Committed Singer-songwriter, as inspired by my beloved Stormy Six, Ivan Della Mea, Claudio Lolli, Cantacronache, Lalli, Ken Loach, Wim Wenders and Pier Paolo Pasolini.
